Fitness Friday

I have been a little scarce this week. I could say that I have been busy, but you know what, that would be lying. I just haven't felt like blogging. Do you ever get those days? Or in my case weeks? I am looking forward to getting back on track.

This week for Fitness Friday, I would like to share that I actually ran for the first time. It wasn't much, but it still felt great. I can't wait to figure out my pace soon so that I can register for my first 5K.

The race that I wanted to register for is this weekend, but I didn't have enough time to train for it so I will have to wait until next year. It is the Turtle Crawl on Jekyll Island. It is a triathlon, 10K, or 5K race. It sounds like so much fun and I can't wait until next year when I run it.This is also a charity run! $2 from every 5K entry and $5 from every triathlon entry goes to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center which is on Jekyll Island.

As for other workouts this week...
I have done a couple days of yoga, but that is about it. Does yard work count? I was helping my mother in law pull some weeds yesterday.

I try to eat healthy, but being a picky eater doesn't help with that. I can never find anything healthy that appeals to me. I eat fruits and some vegetables. My favorites being peaches, strawberries, apples, and broccoli.

That's my Fitness Friday. Hopefully next week will be a little bit better.

Happy Mother's Day!

Mother's Day celebrates the women in our lives that have laid down their lives for us. Mothers are the one that shape us into what they want us to be and shape us into what we will be.
When I was growing up, I didn't consider my mom to be my best friend. She was my mom. I was a kid that wanted to play with my friends from the neighborhood and my friends from school. She was my mom; not my friend. Then when I got older I started to realize that my mom was a friend, but just happened to be my mom at the same time. She wanted me to be who I wanted to be, but also what she wanted me to be.

When I moved I realized that she is my best friend and really always has been. She may have had certain rules while I was growing up that I didn't like, but she made them because she wanted me to be safe.  Momma is my best friend and I wish her the very best Mother's Day!

Catching Up

I am catching up in the blog every day in May challenge.

Day 7, Tuesday: The thing(s) you're most afraid of

I have a fear of heights over fifty feet, I am scared of bridges of open water, possums, and snakes. Yeah, all little things that I really shouldn't be afraid of, but I am.

Day 8, Wednesday: A piece of advice you have for others. Anything at all.

My most favorite advice came from a woman I had known my entire life named Georgia. She was the sweetest lady in the world and never said anything bad about anyone. I was going through a little bit of a hard time around the age of sixteen. Georgia could tell that something was wrong so she took me aside one day after church and told me this:

No matter what hardships may come your way always remember that God loves you and so do many others. I want to see you smile. You are too beautiful to not have a smile on your face.

I have always remembered that and from that day I have kept these words in my heart. Georgia passed away recently and I know that her beloved husband Thomas, was running to Heaven's gate to meet her when she got there.

Monster Cookies

I grew up making cookies with my grandma, but it wasn't very often. I was the grandchild that lived the closest so if I wanted cookies I had to go make them with her. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED spending time with her while we were making them, but I didn't get a random box of cookies sent to me like the other grandkids.

When I moved to Georgia in 2008, that first Christmas away from my family was making me feel sad and wanting to go home. Mr. RCGG came home from the post office with a box of cookies from my grandma! I finally got cookies without having to go make them! I look forward to that box every year now and it is the best piece of mail I get all year! The funny thing about this, I have never really liked her cut cookies, but now that I get that box of cookies at Christmas, I don't remember why I didn't like them!

In July of 2009,  we went up to visit my parents for my mom's birthday. My birthday was the week before so we celebrated mine with my family while we were there. My grandma's gift to me was wrapped in a sling type thing that felt like there was a bowling ball in it. I opened the card and saw that it wasn't a card, but the Monster Cookie recipe. The sling wrapped thing was all the ingredients to make them. This has been by far the best gift she has ever given me and I will always remember it.

I actually had thoughts of not sharing this recipe and taking it to my grave, but then I thought about how selfish that would be. There are many people that have loved these cookies and not sharing the recipe would mean that someday there wouldn't be Monster Cookies in this world. Well, not the BEST monster cookies. They are and will always be made by my grandma.  I am also sharing this because these cookies have brought some many memories of baking with my grandma and I want to share the joy and love that was always put into baking them.

The background of the picture is my baby blanket. Also made by my grandma!

This is one of my prized possessions because I love that she took the time to write it out to share with me.
Just to be honest, my cookies made with this recipe are never as good as the ones she makes with this exact same recipe. There is just something about knowing that she made them that makes them SO much better than the ones I make.

You will need:
3 eggs
1/2 pound brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
vanilla (about two teaspoons)
1 teaspoons baking soda
1 stick butter
1 1/2 cup peanut butter
4 ounces chocolate chips
4 ounces M&M's
4 1/2 cups oats

Mix all together in a large bowl.
Drop on ungreased cookie sheet
Bake at 350 degrees.
Bake for about 12 minutes.

Do not let them get brown.

My grandma lets them stay in the oven just until they are just starting to look solid. I take them out just as they are starting to brown.

Mine will never be as good as hers. No matter what I do they never look or taste like hers.

What Do You Do?

In today's blog every day in May challenge the prompt is If you couldn't answer with your job, how would you answer the question, 'what do you do'?

I started writing this post on Saturday so that I would have it ready for Monday because I knew this was going to be hard for me to write. I have no idea how to answer this question.

I could say I write an extraordinary blog that has thousands of readers on a daily basis, but that is not true. I could say that I am a wonderful crafter with original ideas and fantastic photo. That is halfway true. I have wonderful craft ideas, but they are mainly all Pinterest inspired. My blog photos are getting better though and I am excited about it!

I could say that when asked the question what do you do I can say that I am a blogger no matter how small and unread my blog may be.  I have readers and I love that people want to read what I have to say. That would be the truth! I may not be a great blogger and my crafts may be things that have been done before, but I love doing what I do by trying to make a slight difference.

Professing Blog Love

In the blog world there are many friendships formed! Sometimes you find a blog that you absolutely think you could be best friends with the person. Today's prompt for Blog Every Day in May is to profess your love for a blog friend.

I have four people who I consider to be my best blog friends. They always know how to make me laugh or  inspired with their posts.
If I am having a bad day I can always count on Adrienne over at http://www.lavitaebellaamp.com. Adrienne is so inspiring to me! She can be going through some hard things in life, but never lets it get her down. She has such a great faith in God and always has the kindest heart! Never says anything bad about anything or anyone!
Mandy from http://houseofroseblog.com is another one of my best blog friends. I knew Mandy in high school, but she was a couple years ahead of me. She has a wonderful monthly volg link up called Stop and Smell the Roses where you film a vlog about what you are loving, thankful for or just something that has made you smile over the past month. She shares some of her home decorating and it is BEAUTIFUL! Mandy is amazing! She has the most awesome faith and isn't afraid to share it on her blog. She had her husband are in the process of adopting their fourth child from the Phillpines and have shared the journey on her blog. There have been some bumps along the way, but God has really been working in this step in their lives to get a child into their lives. I pray every day for everything they are going through!
Jen from http://www.adailydoseofdavis.com  is a runner and has inspired me to want to run my first 5K. Last month she really helped me through the Boston Marathon tragedy even when she didn't know it. Thanks again Jen!  She runs an awesome Etsy shop called The Polka Dot Posie with her mom and they have the CUTEST items. I love the Rosie Posie Necklace.
I got this one for Christmas last year. Isn't it adorable?  I have ordered one for my mom for Mother's Day!

Another one of my best blog friends is Kenzie from http://www.lifeaccordingtokenzblog.com! Kenzie is 17 years old and has juvenile arthritis. She has gone through so much in the past few years with it and has turned it all to God. You don't find many teenagers with that kind of faith! I am so blessed to have her in my blog life. She truly is a great girl who loves God and has been blessed by Him in many ways!

I have more blog friends, but Adrienne and Jen are the two I am loving today for Blog Every Day in May! I hope you go check them out and end up loving them as much as I do!

Favorite Quotes

Day 4 of blog every day in May is favorite quotes. These are a few of my favorite quotes.

This verse has gotten me through so much in my life. When things aren't going the way I want I pray this to God and everything starts to go right again.

This is my favorite verse from the Easter story in the Bible.

I love this Irish blessing.
I love Audrey Hepburn. She was so classy.

Uncomfortable

Today is day three of Blog Every Day in May over at Story of My Life. Today's prompt is things that make you uncomfortable.

Well, I really can't think of anything that makes me uncomfortable to be honest.

So I am just going to tell ya all about my annoying celebrity list!

I have more, but I don't think you want to have a horribly pic heavy post! So I will make this it for today.

5/2/13

Baking It Up

In the second day of Blog Every Day in May the prompt is  Educate us on something you know a lot about or are good at. Take any approach you'd like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic)

I love baking and try to find new recipes to make. Some of my favorite things to bake are my grandma's banana bread. I made it for her for Christmas a couple years ago and she loved it so much and cried when she was told that it was from her recipe. I also love making her monster cookies. I have been wanting them for the whole week so I am getting what I need to make them this weekend. Another one of my favorite things to bake are cupcakes. I love cupcakes so much that I could eat them all the time. I have so many different recipes that I could probably write a cupcake cookbook, but it wouldn't be original because they are ones from other people that I have collected from online.

I love decorating cakes too! I haven't done this in a long time, but it is something I really like doing.
I made this one for my mother in law's birthday the year before we moved to Georgia.

This was my first decorated cake. I made this one during my Wilton class.

This was for my mom for Mother's Day.
Just  few cake decorating tips:
If you are decorating your cake on a warm day and it starts to look like it is melting, DO NOT WORRY! Just put it in the fridge for about 30 minutes. It will set up and you can continue decorating. Keep doing this every time it looks like it is melting until you are done. It may seem like it will take forever to finish doing this, but would you really want a cake that is all melted?

You can use cookie cutters for shapes instead of drawing it out every time. I used a flower and butterfly cookie cutter for my first cake and a flamingo cookie cutter for the cake for my mom for Mother's Day! Just press the cookie cutter into the iced cake and pipe your colored icing into the shape.

You can make your own icing or use the canned Wilton icing from Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Using the Betty Crocker, Duncan Hines, or Pilsbury stuff doesn't work. It is too thin for piping.

If you want to make black icing, use a chocolate icing base. When you use a white base icing with black icing coloring it will look more gray. You will have to add practically a whole bottle of icing color and it will end up tasting really bad. So using a chocolate icing base is better because the chocolate doesn't take as much coloring.

I think this might actually be it for today! I hope to continue this all month because it looks like so much fun!

This Is Me

Have you ever wondered about my life? Well, I found a challenge for the month of May to blog every day during the month.

The first prompt of the month is to post your life story. So here it is:

I was born and raised in Southern Illinois in 1982.
I say Southern Illinois because I am NOT FROM CHICAGO!!  There is  whole state below Chicago that people seem to "forget" about. I was two hours south of St. Louis before I moved to Georgia.

Anyways, I graduated high school in 2001 and went to a community college.
I worked at a local movie theater, restaurant, and McDonald's. My favorite of the three being the movie theater. That was so much fun because I was able to get free movies and popcorn. Plus when I closed I got to take the leftover popcorn. (My dad really loved that because he took it to work with him.)  The restaurant was Golden Corral. It was okay, but not the greatest. My co-workers were fun to work with and hang out with outside of work, but that was about it. McDonald's was just McDonald's. I didn't work there long.

After that I really didn't go anywhere until I moved to Georgia with my fiance and his family in 2008.

Now, I work for my husband who has his own Ebay business called Nathan's Clearance Outlet. He sells name brand clothes at a reasonable price. I get out the items that need to be mailed out the next day. It sounds easy and it is, but it also has it's challenges.

My husband and I were married in 2012 on the beach.

It was a beautiful and perfect day. You can see my wedding recap here.

So this is really my life in a nutshell. I love my life and the people in it!

May Stop and Smell the Roses

The first Wednesday of the month is Stop and Smell the Roses day over at House of Rose Blog. I love linking up with Mandy to share what I have been loving over the past month. I have been so blessed to get to know her and the others that link up.

I knew Mandy in high school, but we were a couple years apart. She was a junior my freshman year. I really feel like we started to get to know each other again last year through the Stop and Smell the Roses link up and I am proud to call her a blog and real life friend.

Anyways, There must be some kind of allergen blooming besides pine pollen because I was so stuffed up yesterday when I filmed my video. Hopefully you can understand me.

I am trying to get some more organization around here and I have been learning so many different things that I just want to scream sometimes.
I got my blog planner printables from this site. She has so many different pages to choose.

If you would like to join us for Stop and Smell the Roses you can get all the details here! I would love to see what you are loving this month!

Cara Box

I love getting packages in the mail. It may be cupcake mail from my best friend, a box of gifts from my parents, or a box of cookies from my grandma. Whatever the occasion I love knowing that people have been thinking about me and picked something out just for me.
This month I participated in a gift exchange called Cara Box. It is hosted by Kaitlyn over at Wifessionals. Basically you sign up and are given two names. One is the name of who you will send a gift box to and the other is who will send a gift box to you. Click the Cara Box link to find out more.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Amanda over at Ben & Wes. She is such a wonderful mother and really takes time to play with her boys! Check out her Cara Box post to find out what I sent to her!

Cara Box

I also had the great pleasure of getting to know Jenny through the Cara Box Exchange. Jenny is the sweetest and really took the time to get to know me while shopping for my box.

Jenny sent me the prettiest shade of pink (my favorite color) mineral nail polish. It actually looks a little red on my nails, but whatever; I love it. The minerals in the polish are supposed to be good for your nails.

Also, in my Cara Box was a very pretty shade of light blue eye shadow. It is also good for your skin. I have been using it with my Urban Decay Naked Basics palette's Foxy color.
Ignore the major frizzy hair! This is the light blue eyeshadow with the Foxy color from my Urban Decay palette.

Here's the rest of my Cara Box:

I loved the soy candle. It smells absolutely heavenly! Fruity with a hint of floral. Jenny really took the time to make sure what kind of scents I liked!

One of my favorite things in the world is Burt's Bees lip balm. I love the way it makes my lips feel and how soft they are when I use it. Jenny included two small tins of Burt's Bees. I put one in my purse and the other in my make up bag because I like to put it on before I put lipstick or lip gloss on.

Another little treat I got in my Cara Box was an organic chocolate bar from Italy which may not be included in my picture since I ate it pretty fast! (Sorry, not sorry.) Love it! (and the not so organic M&Ms which may also be gone already.)

I had so much fun getting to know Jenny and Amanda this month and I can't wait to participate again! Thank you so much Jenny for everything!! You are awesome! Thanks so much to Kaitlyn at Wifesessionals for this awesome gift exchange!

Fitness Friday

It is another Friday and that means it is the weekend! YAY! It also means that there is another Fitness Friday link up over at A Daily Dose of Davis.

This week Mr. RCGG and I walked a little bit shorter distance than usual. We were getting started a little bit later than usual and wanted to be home before it got dark or started to rain. I think we are going to start running with Couch25K next week!  I am continuing to do the mali booty workout and it is starting to kick my booty! I hurt so much after I do it! That just means that it is working!

I hope ya all have had a great week and have a fantastic weekend! Ours is forecasted with rain so I don't think there will be anything really going on. Anyways, have a great weekend!

May Operation Be More Crafty Inspiration

May is when summer unofficially starts so I thought I would start doing more summer type crafts. I had no idea what I wanted to do until a couple weeks ago when I saw this adorable flip flop wreath on Pinterest.

So this is what I am going to be making for May's Operation Be More Crafty project.

I have my ideas for the rest of the year already decided with the exceptions of June and October, but I m looking for something to do for those months and I hope to have something decided soon.

Random Things

Have you ever had this urge to blog, but have no idea what to write about? Yeah, that is me today. I haven't really had too much to write about this past week since my heart has been kind of heavy with the events that have been unfolding in Boston and in Texas. I am praying for all who are involved in both situations. I am so glad that the second suspect has been caught.

It was rainy yesterday so we couldn't get our walk in, but I did do the Mali workout that I talked about in my Fitness Friday post again. We really need to get a treadmill so that I can walk or run when it is raining.

I look at health and Fitness stuff on Pinterest and then go to the food boards and pin all these unhealthy recipes. It all looks good to me though and I can't wait to make the recipes I pin. Especially the sausage jambalaya with pasta. It is as close to a copy cat recipe of the dish I had at The Pirates' House in Savannah in February.

I FINALLY got a scrapbook album for our wedding album. Now all I need to do is get our wedding pictures printed so I can start on the scrapbook. We have been married for 8 months and I still haven't gotten any of our pictures printed except ones for gifts.

I already have a couple of craft ideas I want to do for Christmas and it is only April! One is my mother-in-law's Christmas gift and the other one is an ornament that I think I am going to make and put on everyone's gifts with their names on them.

Fitness Friday: For Boston

We all know what happened on Monday in Boston. The Boston Marathon was shaken by a tragic event that has united all runners (and aspiring runners like me.) I had mixed emotions over the course of the week. Everything from being scared to start running to being upset and even mad. My prayers are with everyone that was involved and with everyone trying to find the people that did this.

I haven't actually started running yet, but I am walking every day that I can to get up to the running. After Monday, I had this feeling that I didn't want to run anymore because I was scared that this could happen in Atlanta. For some reason I started reading Jen's running page on her blog. After that I knew that I was being irrational. There was nothing to be scared about. The last line of this page is:

"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start"
~John Bingham

This is what made me decide that I needed to go on! I haven't had a finish yet, but I have the courage to start. So Jen, thank you! You may not have known it, but you really helped me Monday when I had this fear and was debating on not running.

So this week I have walked with Mr. RCGG twice. I may be ready to tackle the hill to the right in the next few days. That hill is huge. We usually got to the left because the hill isn't as big and easier to go up. I am starting Couch25K. next month and hopefully figure out my pace soon so I can register for a race. I want something to keep me motivated. I wanted to run the Turtle Crawl on Jekyll Island next month, but didn't find out about it in time to train. I will run it next year though.

This week I also have been doing a little workout! I have been doing this workout.
I have only done it twice so far, but I plan on doing it some more even if it made me really tired. Haha! Sometimes you just have to keep doing the workout even if makes you exhausted right?!

April Operation Be More Crafty

In my Operation Be More Crafty challenge I wanted to make something spring like for April. What better way to welcome spring than flowers and umbrellas.

This was the easiest thing in the world to make! All I needed a pink parasol, purple and yellow silk flowers, and my glue gun. I opened the parasol and hot glued the flowers to the inside.

I still have to figure out how to get the parasol to not open all the way. So I am thinking of wrapping some string or yarn around the spokes and tying it so that it will stay closed.

I will post another picture of when I hang it up. Right now I have no idea where I am going to put it, but I am thinking it would look great in our dining room window.

I will be posting May's Operation Be More Crafty pinspiration in the next couple weeks.
